About

Who am I?

My name is Gareth. I live on the south coast of England with my wife and two children. In 2017 I quit my full-time job at Rolls-Royce to go to university to study Electronic Engineering. After my masters I became a firmware engineer for Microchip.

Why do you use Linux?

Partway through my 2nd year I got frustrated with Windows and decided to move over to Linux. My frustrations with Windows were mainly performance based, particularly the update process. I felt that the Windows experience was only acceptable if you had the latest hardware and masses of RAM. I'm also getting more infuriated with large tech forcing unnecessary equipment upgrades. Not only is this a waste of money but a waste of valuable resources. This is not the only reason for using Linux, to be honest I can't really explain why I prefer it, I just feel comfortable using it.

Why this blog?

This blog was started to allow me to document some of my projects both electronic based as well as general waffle. I have deliberatly decided to keep it really simple and use only HTML and CSS. I, like a lot of people, believe the web is becoming increasing bloated. By keeping a website "simple" means less watts, less CO2 and happy polar bears.
